In a few days I will be traveling to meet up with friends. Not just any friends… but friends who share the same passion as I do. I will meet up with several hundred friends who have a passion for prison ministry – or better said, a passion for sharing Christ with people who live in prison.
I’m looking forward to spending two days in a women’s prison – well truthfully, it all adds up to about fifteen hours in prison. I love volunteering for prison ministry. To me, it feels as if I have a front row seat for a performance created by God. He always shows up, and He always shows off.
I love meeting women and being able to spend one on one time with them. I love finding the ability to forget about myself and to be able to listen to the beat of a wounded heart. I love the compassion that awakens inside of me and bubbles over for women who are searching for something, anything, to fill the emptiness in their lives. I love knowing that Christ’s sacrifice is a gift for all – a gift for me to share freely.
After the event is over, I will be spending a day or two with friends who have missed us dearly since our move to South Texas. I will tell stories of God’s love and grace in a place where goodness is difficult to find. My friends will live vicariously through my stories, if only for a moment. They will smile with hearts warmed by memories of the day they gave their lives to Christ. They will laugh with delight at all that God has done.
If you think of me, pray for me. Even more so, pray for the women I will meet. Pray for softened and ready hearts. Pray for protection as they make decisions to follow Christ.
