Sharing HOPE…

Zechariah 9.12
I love Zechariah 9:12. This was first a message to the Jews in Jerusalem… now this verse is an important message to the reader: you.

The message is simple: follow that sliver of hope in God that is in your heart, turn from your old ways by clinging to God, and you will experience abundant restoration.

This is the message that hundreds of volunteers will be bringing to inmates throughout the Dallas Texas area next week. I am so very fortunate to be one of the messengers as I join others who have a passion for spreading hope to inmates.

Like many of the volunteers – I’ve chosen to spend my time off by volunteering in prison rather than going on vacation with my family. My time spent in prison is cherished and I like to think of my prison ministry hours as evidence of teamwork. Each event I attend takes teamwork in the form of prayer, encouragement, and financial gifts.

Yes, you guessed it! I need your help. I still need donations to help me pay for this trip to Dallas. My expenses include fuel, a hotel room, and one or two meals. I have made arrangements to share a hotel room with another teammate in order to cut expenses. Another friend has graciously offered to let me stay a night in her home after the event so that I can rest a night before heading back home to Corpus Christi.

Please join with other ‘silent partners’ who help me when they are able. If you can give, please give. If you can encourage me, please do so. If you can pray for me, the other volunteers and speakers, and especially the inmates – please pray! Please leave a note if you’d like to join the team. Every and any gift counts.

For those of you who would like to support me financially, please stop by my prison ministry page. You are welcome to send funds in the mail or by PayPal (credit cards accepted). Please choose to be an active part of sharing HOPE with others.

I look forward to writing an update on my Dallas adventures.

Abundant blessings to you all.

Love always,

Rachel

Where do you start?

Where do you start when you haven’t written in a while? My tendency is to jump right in and ramble.

This year has been busy for me. I’ve been working hard at earning my Bachelor’s degree from Liberty University. The online classes are more challenging than I thought they’d be. I’ll be graduating sometime in 2012. I figured out that after I graduate – I only need approximately eight more classes for an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. I may just go for it. :)

We are a homeschool family. I never thought I’d be associated with ‘that’ label… but homeschooling has been the best experience for us. My daughters are 15 and 16 now and really enjoy learning at home. I am so thankful for my mom. She lives with us and has been a wonderful help with the girls’ education. She basically took over the teacher role when I started college again.

Prison ministry: I have been nominated for Coordinator Training School for Bill Glass Champions for Life. I am so excited! I will be spending the first week of November in Dallas. I look forward to learning and leading. (This is my shameless plug: I need help with hotel room expenses… so if you’d like to donate please visit my prison ministry page.)

Well… this has been a good ramble, however, I must be getting back to paper-writing!

Blessings, my friends.
